New Media and Communication

In recent years, with the development and diversification of technology in the field of communication, technologies related to "new media" have turned into an important industry in the world. Therefore, there is a need to develop academic approaches, theories and application areas in the context of new media. “New Media and Communication” aims to meet this need.

Technology is produced in line with people's individual and social needs. With today's rapid technological innovations, transformations in the field of communication are also necessary. The individual's communication process also brings new practices with digitalization. As a result, today, it is one of the indispensable elements of the communication process; vehicle, medium, channel, chute, etc. Media (communication environment), which we express with these concepts, has turned into "new media" with its interaction, virtuality, digital and hyper-text qualities. "New media", defined as a media system that allows two-way and simultaneous information sharing with Web 2.0, is a new communication environment, a new media that eliminates the concepts of time and space and differs from traditional media with its qualities such as accessibility, usability and access.

At this point, conventional-based education in the field of traditional communication is not sufficient in today's communication sector. In the global world, "New Media" education needs to be different in order to digitally transport, store, transfer and reproduce information.

In order to meet these requirements, Istanbul Aydin University, Faculty of Communication's "New Media and Communication" Undergraduate Program aims to train qualified personnel for the sector who can use new communication tools effectively and efficiently and respond to the expectations of this field. For this reason, in the "New Media and Communication" Undergraduate Program, which is planned to be opened, students will be able to integrate new communication tools, digital media and its extensions, social sharing networks (Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, blog, etc.) with the possibilities of technology, within the framework of ethical values, and produce content for these networks. It is aimed to raise individuals with critical and aesthetic values who can control and manage these networks with theoretical knowledge and practical applications. In this program that is planned to be opened; By examining a brand's social media strategies and applications on social media on theoretical and critical levels, the primary aim will be to train candidates who will become "new media experts" in a "holistic" and "application"-oriented manner. In this direction; It is planned to provide academic support for the education programs and scientific research implemented in the Department of New Media and Communication, especially in the field of "new media".
